Living in Ashburn, VA
Ashburn offers its residents a variety of fun and unique attractions. Once primarily farmland, Ashburn’s population has exploded over the last several decades and the once sleepy town is now home to the famed “Data Center Alley.” In addition to myriad tech companies, Ashburn is also the location of the Washington Redskins’ corporate headquarters as well as what residents have nicknamed “The Bubble,” the inflatable dome under which the team has its practice facilities. Families who live in Ashburn enjoy the many kid-themed businesses and attractions, including the “Dinosaur Park,” with its colorful, dino-themed equipment. When the weather calls for indoor play, businesses like Jumping Jack Sports allow kids to run and jump some of their energy off. When the sun is shining though, you’ll find many Ashburn families at one of the town’s many neighborhood pools, or maybe at the splash pad on One Loudoun’s plaza.
Things to Do in Ashburn, VA
Many ambitious developments have come to Ashburn in recent years, including One Loudoun. Billed as “Loudoun County’s New Downtown,” this mixed-use community is home to the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a movie theater with a full food and drink menu and an in-theater waitstaff. The Alamo is a local favorite for date night or a family day out. One Loudoun is also home to a variety of restaurants, from sub shops to fine dining establishments. This nascent development is growing rapidly, so it always seems like there’s a new business to try out.
Across from One Loudoun are a few unique attractions: iFLY offers indoor skydiving adventures for ages three and up. Right next door is Top Golf, a driving range with a twist. This three-story establishment offers a choice between a straight driving range experience and games with different challenges and goals.
Dining in Ashburn
From classic American fare to worldly cuisines, there are endless eateries in the Ashburn area. For old-fashioned southern barbeque, locals know the Carolina Brothers Pit Barbeque is the place to go. Its location right off the W&OD trail makes Carolina Brothers a favorite among cyclists. It’s not unusual to see someone enjoying a barbeque sandwich at 10 am, after a long ride. Some of Ashburn’s breweries also take advantage of their proximity to the bike trail, including Old Ox Brewery and Beltway Brewing Company. Old Ox even sells branded cycling shirts.
Another treasure trove of restaurants can be found in Belmont Chase, home of Loudoun’s first Whole Foods. Local workers can be found taking a lunch break at Cava Grill or Chipotle, while many residents enjoy relaxing dinners with a perfectly paired glass of wine at Cooper’s Hawk.

Ashburn is a wonderful town with a variety of single-family homes, townhouses and condo buildings. While there are still some historic properties in “Old Ashburn,” most of the town’s housing inventory is from the last 20+ years, with new developments constantly being built. Many of Ashburn’s homes for sale come with luxury features such as finished basements, modern kitchen appliances and bright and sunny rooms with spacious layouts. Some models include back decks and patios, ideal for enjoying nice weather. Luxury city-style condos have made an appearance in Ashburn in recent years, offering amenities that include private roof decks and are located within walking distance to parks, restaurants and nightlife. Condos in Loudoun Station will be within walking distance to the Metro Silver Line, which is currently being expanded into Ashburn.
Getting Around Ashburn
Ashburn is located close to several major roads, ideal for commuting to surrounding areas. Route 7 runs east to west, Route 28 in the east of town runs north to south and the Dulles Toll Road in the south runs east to west. There are also a few public transportation options such as the park and ride bus lots that operate during morning and late afternoon rush hours. Destinations include the Wiehle-Reston East metro station, Rosslyn, Crystal City, the Pentagon and Washington, D.C. The final build-out of the Metro’s Silver Line will include stops in Ashburn and allow for direct train transportation into Washington, DC.
